ABOUT
WE MAKE BICYCLING MORE ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL
The Columbus Bicycle Co-op is Columbus, Indiana’s only not-for-profit community bike garage. Open to the public and located in the basement of the United Way building (1531 13th St., Columbus, IN), the Co-op exists to make bicycling an affordable and sustainable means of transportation and recreation for all residents of Bartholomew County. Volunteer based, we are always seeking eager learners who want to help out.
Classes, tools, parts, bikes, and work space are available for free or very little cost. Bike aficionado volunteers with knowledge of bike mechanics, bike safety, various types of riding, and local routes and trails are available to help you during open hours.
We don’t offer tune-up services nor will someone repair your bike for you, but volunteers will help you learn to do-it-yourself. We have most tools and parts that you may need.
A BRIEF HISTORY
Our founders, Loran Bohall, Justin Meier and Baylee Pruitt wanted to bring the model of the Bloomington Community Bike Project to their hometown, Columbus, Indiana. With the help of many bike-loving Columbus residents, they made it happen. The Columbus Bike Co-op started in a garage in 2007, but grew quickly with the support of our community. In 2011, we moved into our large space in the basement of the United Way of Bartholomew County’s building at 1531 13th Street. In 2014, with assistance from Voelz Law LLC and Healthy Communities, we achieved our 501(c)(3) status and became a registered not-for-profit organization. We look forward to continuing to bring bikes to people and people to bikes for years to come.
